CETDEM’S 40TH ANNIVERSARY LUNCH
AT BERJAYA TIMES SQUARE HOTEL, KL
On Sunday 2nd November 2025, the Centre for Environment, Technology and Development Malaysia (CETDEM) celebrated its 40th Anniversary with a Fund Raising Lunch at Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. YB Rajiv Risyakaran, ADUN Bt Gasing, Petaling Jaya, known supporter and advocate for sustainable urban planning, was the Guest of Honour.
The highlights of CETDEM’s activities and impacts to date were presented by Adviser, Gurmit Singh, who also gave a brief eulogy on the late Mano Maniam, a founder member and the first Chairman of CETDEM.
In his speech, Gurmit highlighted CETDEM’s activities with regard to addressing issues impacting on long-term climate change, sustainable energy, sustainable transport, organic farming and sustainable landscape development. Strong concern continues over the loss of Biodiversity, increasing Greenhouse Gas emissions, river pollution, increasing solid waste, poor public transport, energy wasting dumping of toxic and hazardous waste, poor enforcement and unsustainable lifestyles. One prevailing root cause is greed exceeding need. CETDEM had always strived to raise environmental awareness on these issues, and will continue, with other like-minded organizations, to be committed to environmental sustainability. However, more committed members are necessary, as well deeper technological engagement, for a more impactful sustainable future.
A slide show had been prepared highlighting some of CETDEM’s achievements.  A video on Gurmit Singh was also shown prior to Tan Sri Dr Salleh’s speech, who was invited to speak on Gurmit’s environmental mission and achievements over the years.
The Anniversary Lunch also featured entertainment by Markiza Halim and friends, with a Lucky Draw for gifts contributed by CETDEM’s sponsors.
A total amount of RM66,000 was raised, comprising direct contributions for luncheon tables and seats, as well as donations from members and well-wishers, some of whom were unable to attend the luncheon. This fund will help support CETDEM’s continuous efforts to promote environmental sustainability and climate change mitigation for the betterment of our nation and society.
